UKCC Level 2 badminton coach Ian Robinson has created a loose association of self-employed badminton coaches from
the Croydon and South-East london area so that they have a hub and forum for discussion, feedback and debate about local issues
relating to badminton coaching and playing. All the coaches remain independent and croydonbadmintoncoaching.co.uk is not responsible
for them or their activities. It is hoped , however, that through informal discussion and feedback with other coaches,
standards will be maintained and the sport will continue to develop in the area.
A bit about Ian –
"I was born in Croydon and have lived most of my life around the area, apart from a few years in the Gulf where
I learned to swim. I completed a 5K swimathon for Marie Curie and a channel swim ( the indoor pool equivalent!).
I quit smoking in 2002 after 15 years a smoker which was not easy to do, and was diagnosed type 2 diabetic in 2005,
requiring me to change my lifestyle radically.
I have completed over 100 fun runs. I entered into the
Flora London Marathon in 2009 and got around safely.
I played badminton as a boy with my parents and
at school but only took it up again in 2000 at the age of 29. I have won a few local club tournaments and play in the local
leagues for Coulsdon and Purley Badminton Club.
I began coaching in 2003 as an assistant and passed my UKCC Level
2 coaching award in 2008, allowing me to deliver sessions on my own.
I like to introduce badminton
into people’s lives as part of healthy living , rather than a way of life itself. It can be very therapeutic for people
in rehabilitation or convalescence, is excellent for mobility and anaerobic exercise, can help build and develop character
from badminton etiquette and competition, and is fantastic for meeting and socialising with like minded people. "
