A bit about Colin –
I was born in Croydon and have lived within 5 miles of the town centre ever since.
I have travelled extensively throughout Western Europe and I have enjoyed trekking in the Alps.
Although no more than an average achiever in PE lessons at school, when I left, I took up squash, then martial arts,
badminton, then tennis and running, and later, cycling.
I joined Coulsdon & Purley Badminton Club in 2002 and
I am currently Session Rep. for the Thursday night Club sessions.
I have won, or been a finalist in,
a few club tournaments including Singles, Levels and Mixed.
I thoroughly enjoy the sport and in
recent years I have begun to enjoy teaching others.
I am qualified at UKCC Level One and I am currently preparing
for Level Two. This includes assisting the Senior Club Coach two evenings per week in both Beginners’ and Improvers’
courses at South Croydon Sports Club.
I
hope that you will find me to be a friendly, approachable and patient coach, yet avidly competitive when playing the game
in competitions.
My aim is not only ‘to put something back into the sport’ in return
for all the years of enjoyment that it has given me, but also to actively promote badminton by introducing it as a fun activity
that can appeal to many people, as part of a way of healthy living.
From my own experience I know that
the game promotes excellent mobility and agility. It is a good way to meet like-minded people and is useful to help develop
character in younger participants through etiquette and competition. The game also appeals to older players – I know
several accomplished players in their seventies.
I shall be available for group and one-to-one coaching.
